Birding With a Backpack

Hot Weather Birding

If you carry both binoculars and a camera, a binocular harness frees the camera to hang on its own strap without the two tangling. When a Neck Strap Still Makes Sense

Compact binoculars under 16 ounces may not need a full harness. The weight is low enough that a padded neck strap works fine for most people. Similarly, if you bird primarily from a car or blind where you set binoculars down between uses rather than carrying them for hours, a strap is adequate.
